Abstract

The Early Warning Score (EWS) is a physiological scoring system used in medical-surgical units before a patient experiences an emergency. The EWSS scoring system is accompanied by an action algorithm based on the results of the patient assessment. The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship between nurse characteristics and knowledge in the Early Warning Score (EWS) assessment in the Adult Ward at Dr. J.H. Awaloei Hospital. This study employed a descriptive analytical approach with a cross-sectional study approach. The population in this study was 34 patients. The sample size was 34. The sampling technique used was probability sampling with a total sampling method. Data analysis used univariate and bivariate analysis with the Chi-Square test. The results of this study indicate that knowledge of early warning score (EWS) assessment in the adult ward of Dr. J.H. Awaloei Hospital, with nurse characteristics, showed that the majority Age ranges from 20-30 years, there are 27 (79,4%), nurse education level (23 (67.6%), female gender (25 (73.5%), work experience between 1-5 years (19 (55.9%), good knowledge of EWS (18 (52.9%), and the results of bivariate analysis showed that most had no significant relationship with knowledge of EWS assessment, evidenced by a p-value greater than 0.05, for the variables age (p = 0.137), education level (p = 1), and gender (p = 0.427). However, a statistically significant relationship was found between the variable of length of service and knowledge of EWS assessment with a p-value (p = 0.022). The results of this study are expected to be input for research locations to be more aware of patient condition.
